Bcuz of U

They were able to make the red beetle a real character, a silent witness, a narrator of the story even, although how the other owners of that car missed that the one parked outside the church at the end of the movie, was once theirs, is a little unbelievable, as the car was supposed to be a catalyst in bringing the couples together. It wasn't as if it changed it's plate number. Anyway, how they connected the three love stories by that object was pretty cool--the whole, non-linear concept worked well for the movie. But at the same time, the three stories can very well stand independently of each other as none of the people involved actually interacted with the characters from the other stories. I guess that's marketing strategy for you as I doubt 3 separate movies would generate as much profit as one movie with 3 diff. love teams in it, which is a shame really, because I think I could do without having seen the two others, and just watching the story of Hero and Sandara.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Heart Evangelista. But I do feel an enormous amount of hatred towards her co-star Geoff Eigenman (sp?). Mostly because he can't act, but I guess also because I didn't like the character he was "playing". Maybe the writers meant for his role to be like that, but it annoyed me still. It's so irritating, when you're trying to have a serious conversation with someone about business matters (like car insurance), and he keeps changing the subject to the status of your relationship. And sure, it's a love story, and maybe that makes him romantic, but people like that never resolve anything.

I also didn't get the speech of Desiree Del Valle's character towards the end of their story. She starts off by telling Cara (Heart), "I told you so," and then without making a clear point, suddenly makes a 360-degree turn and encourages her friend to "Go for it." Maybe they needed that speech for Cara's line at the end, "I'm willing to take a chance with you," (or something like that) to work, but if you ask me, I think the story could've done without that line at all. Sometimes, actions really do speak louder than words, and I think her coming after Roni (Geoff) is enough of a gesture to show that she's taking a chance because she loves him too, blah, blah...

As for Kristine Hermosa and Diether Ocampo's part, well, I don't have anything against them either, but really, there wasn't anything special about their story. And sure, life, as it is, can be complicated enough, but the whole point of seeing a movie is so you can watch something larger than life, and their story, was just not that. A girl doing everything she can to get back her old boyfriend who suddenly gets handsome after a few years--not exactly new, nor the only one of its kind. There were a number of quotable lines that made a lot of sense though (and same goes for Cara and Roni's story), so these parts weren't completely useless/of no value to the film. But like I said, the part that was really worth my money is the story of Louie (Hero Angeles) and April (Sandara Park).
Their (Hero and Sandara) performance was definitely suprising. A big improvement from the episodes of SCQ Reload, which leads me to believe that their director this time is most probably brilliant. And same goes for the screenplay writer. This film has one of the best scripts I've encountered (for the romantic comedy genre). The part where Louie and April were saying the same things, just in different languages, was hilarious. Nearly all the scenes were both comedy and "kilig" moments with memorable lines too. And aren't those just what make a good love story?Bcuz of U is a Filipino romantic film, starring Kristine Hermosa, Diether Ocampo, Heart Evangelista, Geoff Eigenmann, Hero Angeles and Sandara Park. Bcuz of U is a 3 love story in 1 movie.
