MANILA, Philippines -- Star Cinema's "Unofficially Yours," the first movie teamup of John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin, earned P18.5 million on its first day, beating the hit film "No Other Woman," which opened at P15 million.

"#unOfficially yours 1st day gross: P18.5 million!:) Congratulations @143redangel and JLC!!!," Roxy Liquigan, ad prom director of Star Cinema, confirmed on Thursday via Twitter.

Replying to messages of congratulations on Twitter, Locsin tweeted on Thursday: "Thank you Lord!*halik sa lupa*"

SM Cinemas announced on Twitter that it is opening two screens of the movie in "almost all" of its branches starting today.

Directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, "Unofficially Yours" tells the story of a casual relationships.

The opening numbers of "Unofficially Yours" bode well for the film, especially since "No Other Woman" went on to become the second most successful movie last year with total gross revenues of P282.5 million for its entire run.

The success of "Unofficially Yours" also cements Cruz's strong appeal at the box office.

Six movies starring Cruz are on the list of all-time top local films shown in the Philippines, according to figures from Box Office Mojo -- more than any other actor. In fact, Cruz's films occupy the third to seventh spots on the list. These six films alone have earned more than P1 billion in the box office.
